Dr. Jennifer Walden knows exactly what it means to be a woman working in a male-dominated industry. Dr. Walden is a board-certified plastic surgeon her own practice in her hometown of Austin, Texas. She is one of only 851 women in America with the certification. More than 8100 male plastic surgeons in the country are board certified. Dr. Walden believes the lack of women surgeons in the field has a lot to do with the effect pursuing such a career could have on family aspirations. The path to becoming a plastic surgeon requires a minimum of five years of education after the completion of medical school which requires women that are desiring to have children to delay this dream until later in life.

Dr. Jennifer Walden believes there are definite advantages to being a female plastic surgeon. First of all, 91% of cosmetic surgery that is performed in the country is done on women. This gives women surgeons like Dr. Walden an upper hand because the majority of patients are not interesting in becoming a replica of the mail ideal for female beauty.

Dr. Walden explains that most women seek cosmetic surgery solutions to address undesirable changes to their bodies that make them feel subconscious.
