House with a Heart – End of Life Care for Dogs

House with a Heart is a shelter for senior dogs located in the Gaithersburg, Maryland area. Founded in 2006, House with a Heart, was created for dogs with the end of life issues. In a sense, it is a hospice for dogs.

The shelter currently houses thirty dogs and four cats. To fund it, Daniel Amen says the owner Sher Polvinale boards local animals. A busy shelter, Sher works along with 50 volunteers to take care of all the animals.

The house is on a property with two fully fenced acres to allow the residents room to run and play. There are doggie doors all around the shelter to allow the residents easy access to the yard. Since, Sher has worked in a shelter, she does not look to adopt out the dogs. She simply wants to provide them a safe, loving environment in which they can live out the rest of their lives. And do so as comfortably as possible.
